Description
The balance and smoothness of an Haut-Médoc wine
The estate
Located in the Haut-Médoc AOC, Château Cambon la Pelouse is one of the major names in its appellation. The property is ranked as a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel following the new classification, the mention being applicable from the 2018 vintage until the 2022 vintage. Château Cambon La Pelouse is now owned by Treasury Wines Estates, a world-renowned group with extensive experience in Australian, New Zealand, American and Italian vineyards.
The vineyard
A benchmark among Haut-Médoc wines, Château Cambon La Pelouse is remarkably well situated on the edge of the Margaux appellation. Spread across an area of 65 hectares, the vines are planted on soils of large, thin, sandy gravel dating from the Quaternary period. The particularity of these soils gives the vineyard an excellent drainage capacity while advancing the ripening of the grapes thanks to the restitution of the heat stored during the day by the gravel. 2021 marks the beginning of the organic farming certification process for the vineyard.
The vintage
2022 was a year marked by unstable weather conditions which the vines, thanks to the quality of their terroir, resisted particularly well.
Winemaking and ageing
The wine was aged for 12 months in French oak barrels (50% of which are new).
Blend
Merlot (45%)
Cabernet sauvignon (40%)
Petit verdot (15%).
