Description
A rich and intense Cotes du Rhone red wine by Xavier Vignon that is adorned with a label by Ines de la Fressange
The estate
For over twenty years, the exceptional winegrower, Xavier Vignon, has been regarded as one of the finest experts in the Southern Rhone Valley. After studying oenology in Montpellier, Xavier Vignon travelled around the vineyards in France and Australia. Smitten by the Rhone Valley, he established an oenology laboratory in 1996 in the Vaucluse. Since 2016, Xavier Vignon has devoted himself fully to the creation of his own wines. A lover of fine terroirs and grape varieties, Xavier Vignon vinifies and blends vintages that stand out due to their unique style.
The wine
Since 2020, Xavier Vignon has been working alongside the ''Fondation de la Mer'' in order to protect the maritime world. As part of this partnership, Xavier Vignon is unveiling two wines (one red and one rose) that are produced using organic farming practices. These wines are adorned with a label designed by the French designer, Ines de la Fressange. For each bottle purchased, 1€ will be donated to the Fondation de la Mer.
This "Une Bouteille à la Mer Rouge Edition Ines de la Fressange" by Xavier Vignon is a Cotes du Rhone Villages 2019 wine made from vines planted on a tapestry of soils (limestone scree, pebbles, marl, clay and limestone).
Vinification and aging
This red wine comprises five grape varieties, including Syrah, and is vatted in mid-September with the white varieties (Roussanne, Viognier) using whole grapes. Long cold maceration. At the end of the alcoholic fermentation, Grenache and Mourvedre are added to develop the complexity of the wine. Cold pressing. Malolactic fermentation is carried out at a later stage. Around 20% of the wine is aged in first-fill barrels, the remainder is aged in truncated wooden and concrete vats. Three rackings using inert gases are carried out before proceeding with the final blend.
The blend
Syrah (75%)
Mourvedre (10%)
