Wine Spectator

James Molesworth

Bright, with a core of yellow apple, white peach and honeysuckle notes, flecked with light hints of wet straw and brioche. The lingering quinine hint gives this good zip through the finish. Rolle and Sauvignon Blanc. Drink now. 250 cases made, 70 cases imported.

Bettane+Desseauve

We handled this vintage well, with creaminess and energy on the finish.

La RVF

A striking white from Provence, made from rolle (60%) and sauvignon blanc. It offers subtle notes of gently petrolly and smoky botanicals, bringing energy to a vinous, precise palate. It will hold surprises with time.

Description

Harvesting is carried out by hand and its date is determined by tasting the grapes. For Villa Baulieu dry white wine, priority is to preserve the freshness of the fruit. Following rigorous sorting both in the vineyard and at the cellar, the grapes (Rolle and Sauvignon) are crushed directly without removing the stalks. This more sunny vintage has helped the varietal to really express itself in its unique terroir. Villa Baulieu 2013 is very complex and elegant, the wine releases aromas of citrus, lemon and fennel, along with some exotic and mineral overtones. Finesse and complexity best describe this Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence on the nose. Freshness, dynamism and breadth on the palate are the keys to an exceptional wine from Provence region. The understated oak gives way to a slightly saline minerality. There is a nice bitter hint on the finish, derived from the polyphenols.
