Description
The estate
A 2nd Classified Growth of Pauillac, the magnificent Chateau Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande shines bright on the left bank of Bordeaux.
The vineyard
The vineyard dedicated to the Reserve de Pichon Comtesse is home to 73 planted hectares. The 35-year-old vines are cultivated according to the principles of sustainable viticulture. Part of the vineyard, 28 hectares, is biodynamically managed.
The vintage
This 2019 vintage was characterized by conditions favorable for a smooth vine cycle. The warm winter allowed for an early budding, while the cool temperatures of spring slowed the growth of the vine, which eventually reached a perfect level of ripeness in September after a consistent veraison at the end of the summer.
The winemaking
Plot-by-plot vinification. Gravity-fed vatting. Tapered tanks with double thermo-regulated walls.
The aging
Aging for 12 months in barrels, of which 40% are new oak, a medium-long toast, traditional racking “a l’esquive,” fining with egg whites.
The blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (51%), merlot (46%), cabernet franc (3%).
The tasting
The nose combines notes typical of the Pauillac appellation, sap and graphite, as well as fruity notes of strawberry, complemented by floral fragrances of lilac. The Reserve Pichon Comtesse 2019 then offers a gourmet palate echoing the bouquet. Persistent and juicy on the palate, the wine has a velvety and tight texture, with a nice acidity. The wine offers a pure expression of the Pauillac terroir through flavors of red fruits mixed with sandalwood and cedar.
