Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the Auxey-Duresses Village “Les Closeaux” 2024 by Pierre Vincent
Tasting
Color
The wine shows a hue shifting between crimson and ruby, reflecting a measured extraction.
Nose
The nose opens with a bouquet of ripe red fruits, between strawberry and cherry, evoking a lively compote, accompanied by delicate floral notes and a hint of white pepper spice.
Palate
The palate is concentrated, carried by a creamy texture of strawberry and red cherry. The tannic structure unfolds in fine, chalky layers, between fruit and subtle woody notes, leading to a long, precise finish.
Food and wine pairing
This wine will pair ideally with roast poultry with aromatic herbs, served with root vegetables, or with dishes based on wild mushrooms, whose earthy notes will echo the wine's spicy framework. It will also suit white meat with a tender texture, such as pork fillet or veal braised with mushrooms.
Serving and cellaring
We recommend serving the Auxey-Duresses Village “Les Closeaux” 2024 at a temperature of between 15 and 16°C, possibly after a brief decanting to soften its still youthful tannic structure. This wine can be enjoyed between approximately 2028 and 2031, a period during which its tannins and spicy notes will meld harmoniously.
An Auxey-Duresses “Les Closeaux” shaped by the rarity of the 2024 vintage
The estate
Domaine Pierre Vincent was founded in 2024 in Auxey-Duresses, in the Côte-d'Or, in the heart of Burgundy. It takes over the historic vineyard holdings of Domaine des Terres de Velle, acquired by the Solexia group in 2023. Pierre Vincent, an enologist who worked at Domaine de la Vougeraie and then Domaine Leflaive, has taken the helm of this seven-hectare estate spread across prestigious appellations of the Côte de Beaune. His purist, minimally interventionist philosophy relies on old vines derived from massal selections.
The vineyard
This wine comes from a single plot in the Les Closeaux climat, in Auxey-Duresses, covering 0.7268 hectare. The vines, planted between 1962 and 1970, grow on clay soil and enjoy a southeasterly exposure. Soil work alternates between mechanical tillage and grass cover, with minimal use of treatments, in a spirit of respect for living systems.
The vintage
The 2024 vintage was marked by exceptional downy mildew pressure on the Closeaux plot, resulting in the loss of more than 80% of the harvest. These difficult climatic conditions greatly reduced the available volumes, while concentrating the substance of the few grapes that reached maturity.
Vinification and aging
The Auxey-Duresses Village “Les Closeaux” 2024 is vinified using whole bunches, following a cold pre-fermentation maceration and a vatting period of around fifteen days. Aging continues in oak barrels before a stay in a stainless steel tank, then bottling.
Grape variety
100% Pinot Noir.
