Arianna Occhipinti has been making wine since she was 16 years old. She started out assisting her uncle, Giusto Occhipinti, in the famous Sicilian COS cellars and continued her passion to viticulture school. Branching out on her own in 2004, Occhipinti began with one hectare of abandoned vines on a family vacation house property and grew it into the 25 hectare biodynamic powerhouse that it is today. Working exclusively with native varieties and with zero interference in the vineyards, the winery looks to highlight the terroir and local flair of the of the Vittoria region in southeastern coast of Sicily. Perhaps best known for her signature Occhipinti SP68 Rosso, Arianna Occhipinti has become a star in the Italian wine world and has been known for her stellar success with biodynamics.
The flagship wine, the Occhipinti SP68 Rosso 2017, is named after a nearby local road in Vittoria. Made up of 70% Frappato and 30% Nero d’Avola from four specific sites, the Occhipinti SP68 Rosso 2017 is fresh, bright and elegant It has a tart and acidic start bursting with red berries that leads to a delicate earth tone that highlights the minerality of the terroir. It is a delicious young wine that is food friendly or delightful and dazzling on its own.
