The estate
An icon of the left bank, Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou is undoubtedly one of the greatest names in the Bordeaux region. The 2nd Classified Growth in the Official Classification of 1855 embodies the perfect model of a great Saint-Julien. Acquired by the Borie family in 1941, Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou takes its name from its extraordinary terroir. Under the leadership of the determined and talented Bruno Borie, Ducru-Beaucaillou has become one of the greatest wines of Saint-Julien.
The vineyard
The Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou vineyard is situated along the river and planted in soils of gravel dating from the Günz Ice Age. Located near the Gironde estuary, the vines enjoy an exceptional microclimate and the river, which acts as a thermoregulator.
The wine
A new wine from Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou, the Madame de Beaucaillou Hommage a Madame Eugene Borie pays tribute to the woman who served as the President of the Supervisory Board from 1998 to 2020 and to the former female owners of this iconic reference of Saint-Julien. The Madame de Beaucaillou Hommage a Madame Eugene Borie is made from vines in Haut-Medoc, acquired through marriage by Madame Eugene-Borie. This cuvée is vinified in the cellars of Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou by the property's technical teams.
The blend
Merlot (68%), cabernet sauvignon (17%), petit verdot (13%), cabernet franc (2%).
The aging
12 months in Bordeaux barrels, 20% new oak and the rest in barrels of one previous wine.
The tasting
The Madame de Beaucaillou Hommage a Madame Eugene Borie 2019 presents a bright and deep color with purple reflections. Full of charm, the aromatic bouquet reveals fresh notes of black fruit and subtle floral fragrances of violet. Aeration reveals delicate spicy and woody notes. Upon attack, the wine caresses the palate with its silky tannins. A wine of great pleasure, this cuvée from Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou will delight with its gourmet and subtle character those who love the fine red wines of Haut-Médoc.
