Madame de Beaucaillou 2024

Bright ruby; open on the nose, ripe cherry fruit, licorice, very seductive; approachable attack on the palate, then it grips, noticeable tannins, plenty of freshness, saline finish.

Sharp, high-toned fruit, tangy raspberry and cranberry fruit. This has bite and grip, a juicy core but lean tannins - quite a focussed expression with tension and a salty liquorice grip. Quite serious, a touch severe and spiced on the finish. Not so layered, but good definition. 3.6pH.

Currants and flowers fill the nose. Light, bright, and fruity, this well-priced charmer will be ready to go on release. The wine blends 63% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 3% Petit Verdot. 13% ABV. Drink from 2027-2033. 89-91 Pts

A lovely fruity intensity in the bouquet of Madame de Beaucaillou, with notes of black berries and a touch of liquorice. Sleek in style, the wine has plenty of pep, supported by compact tannins and a structuring acidity. Only the austerity does not yet seem fully integrated to me, but ageing will smooth out the edges. A tonic, mouthwatering wine that can be enjoyed young.

Beautiful clarity of fruit, delivering lean but vivid cherry and spiced savoury plum, with tannins that are present but not overly tight. Harvested around 35hl/h yield, then ended up in the bottle at 20-25hl/h yield, giving you some idea of the sorting needed to tease out the best wines of the vintage. Increased footprint of vines, with 20ha added from the purchase of Chateau Doroux, in Cussac Fort Médoc, but still the final amount saw around 50% of the usual production. 11% press wine. 3.6 pH. harvest 22 September to 10 October, 20% new oak.
