A Burgundy white marked by the limestone character of its Beaune terroir
The Estate
Founded in 1797 in Beaune, Maison Louis Latour is one of Burgundy's oldest family-owned wine houses, still led today by a descendant of its founder. The estate spans roughly 48 hectares, including 27 hectares of Grand Cru vineyards, centered around the village of Aloxe-Corton. Known for its own cooperage and its gravity-flow Corton Grancey winery, the house combines traditional know-how with a long-standing commitment to sustainable viticulture, avoiding insecticides and herbicides across its vineyards.
The Vineyard
The Beaune 1er Cru "Aux Cras" vineyard sits high on the slope behind the town of Beaune, on the site of a former quarry marked by extremely rocky, limestone-rich soil. The vines are planted on three stone-walled terraces, a layout that reflects sunlight and retains heat, encouraging early and even ripening. The vines average 20 years of age and grow in clay-limestone soil, with yields kept to a moderate 40 hectoliters per hectare.
The Vintage
The 2022 vintage in Beaune benefited from conditions favoring early and bright ripening, consistent with the precocious character typically associated with the "Aux Cras" site.
Winemaking and aging
The Beaune 1er Cru "Aux Cras" 2022 is vinified traditionally in oak barrels crafted by the house's own cooperage, with a complete malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged for 8 to 10 months in barrels, half of which are new, allowing the oak influence to integrate gradually while preserving freshness.
Grape Variety
100 % chardonnay.
