Languedoc image

The Languedoc wine region covers around 40,000 hectares in the South of France. The vineyards of Languedoc enjoy a Mediterranean climate with hot and dry summers, mild winters and low rainfall. Here, the wines are planted in an extremely varied patchwork of soils, which vary by appellation (terraces of round pebbles, sandstone, marl, limestone, shale, clays , sand...). The grape varieties planted here are also very varied, due to the restructuring of Languedoc vineyards in the 1970s. This region is now home to very high quality red and white grape varieties (Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, Fer Savadou, Grenache, Lledonner Pelut, Macabeo, Malbec, Mourvedre, Grenache Gris, Muscat, Chardonnay, Chenin, Clairette, Grenache Blanc, Maccabeu Blanc, Marsanne, Mauzac, Piquepoul Blanc, Rolle, Roussanne...). Languedoc is home to a total of 23 appellations producing still wines, natural sweet wines and even sparkling wines.
