Description
The typicity of a great Sauternes wine
The estate
Château Doisy-Daëne is located in Barsac, in the Sauternes appellation, and has belonged to the Dubourdieu family since 1924. Carried by three generations of winemakers, this vineyard, classified as a Second Cru Classé in 1855 and possessing an exceptional terroir, produces renowned sweet wines that rank among the greatest wines of Bordeaux. Denis Dubourdieu has been at the helm of the estate since 2000.
The vineyard
Château Doisy-Daëne is situated on the terroir of the Barsac plateau in Sauternes. This area is characterized by its unique geological formation. Here, a thin layer of clayey sands, known as "the red sands of Barsac," rests upon limestone subsoils. This porous limestone regulates the water supply to the vines by releasing water stored during the winter. The wines of Château Doisy-Daëne are therefore distinguished by their exceptional finesse.
The wine
L'Extravagant de Doisy-Daëne was born in 1990. This rare and exceptional cuvée was the result of an experiment by Denis Dubourdieu. He wanted to try producing a cuvée from Sauvignon Blanc affected by noble rot, pushed to the extreme. The grapes were harvested in early November with a high sugar content, high potential alcohol, and very concentrated berries. Since 1990, only very great vintages have been produced in limited quantities from the estate's historic plots.
Blend
The 2012 Château Doisy-Védrines is the result of a blend of Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle.
