Marks and reviews
Domaine E. Guigal was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal, in Ampuis. His son Marcel took over in 1961. Today, the 3rd generation perpetuates the heritage and values of this emblematic Rhône Valley family business.
Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Hermitage, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage, the domaine E. Guigal oversees a mosaic of vineyards in numerous appellations, producing a range of wines of impeccable quality.
Over the years, E. Guigal has expanded rapidly, acquiring the famous Château d'Ampuis in 1995, as well as several other estates (Jean-Louis Grippat, Domaine de Vallouit, Domaine de Bonserine and Château de Nalys in Châteauneuf-du-Pape).
E. Guigal's emblematic La Mouline is a Côte-Rôtie wine made from terraced plots forming a natural amphitheater. Around 75 years old, the vines are planted on light-colored siliceous soils mixed with calcareous loess.
Vinification and aging
After harvesting, the grapes are sorted before vinification in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Traditional pumping-over. Fermentation followed by maceration for nearly 4 weeks. This Rhône Valley wine is aged exclusively in new oak barrels for 40 months.
A beautiful ruby-red hue with vermilion-red highlights.
With a powerful yet delicate aromatic intensity, the nose offers notes of red fruits and blackberries that combine with floral touches of violet.
Very supple from the outset, the palate charms with its harmony of aromatic finesse and richness.
For best results, serve between 16°C and 18°C.
E. Guigal's Mouline 2018 can be cellared until around 2033.
