The Estate
Located in Gevrey-Chambertin in the heart of Burgundy, this family-run estate traces its winegrowing roots back to the 17th century. Its official creation in its current form dates from 1994, when Bernard Dugat founded the "Domaine Bernard Dugat-Py" label. Today, his son Loïc Dugat-Py is at the head of the estate. Covering roughly 15 hectares, this renowned domaine is distinguished by its very old vines, extremely low yields, and strong commitment to biodynamics, producing wines of remarkable concentration.

The Vineyard
The 0.5-hectare parcel lies within the Champs Pimont section of the Clos des Avaux climat, in the commune of Beaune. Facing east and southeast at about 240 meters above sea level, these old vines thrive at the foot of the slope on heavy brown soils composed of clay and limestone. The vineyard is farmed according to organic and biodynamic principles. The soils are plowed by horse, and the canopy is not trimmed; instead, the shoots are braided to encourage optimal ripening and limit vine stress.

The Vintage
The 2023 growing season was marked by unstable weather and a series of heatwaves. These particular conditions led to very rapid ripening of the grapes during the vegetative cycle, prompting the estate to begin picking early.

Winemaking and aging
In the cellar, the approach is deliberately low-intervention. Fermentations begin naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts, with no chaptalization or acidification. The harvest includes 50% whole clusters. Beaune Premier Cru "Clos des Avaux" Vieilles Vignes 2023 is then aged for 18 to 20 months in French oak barrels, 10% of which are new. This long maturation takes place in the historic, vaulted cellars of L'Aumônerie, dating from the 11th and 12th centuries, before bottling without fining or filtration.
