Description
Tasting Notes and Serving Suggestions for Beaune 1er Cru "Les Avaux" 2019 – Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret
Tasting Notes
Appearance
The Beaune 1er Cru "Les Avaux" 2019 from Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret reveals a deep, intense color, a hallmark of wines grown on this clay-limestone climat in the Côte de Beaune.
Nose
The bouquet is complex and expressive, blending gamey notes with hints of leather, red and black fruits, and accents of blackcurrant and sour cherry.
Palate
The palate is both silky and dense, displaying fine distinction and lovely balance within a generous, ample whole. The tannins, well present, are never overpowering: they blend harmoniously with flavors of ripe cherry and subtle candied notes.
Food and Wine Pairings
This Beaune 1er Cru "Les Avaux" pairs beautifully with beef bourguignon, duck breast with cherries, or roasted poultry. It also works wonderfully with grilled veal or soft, washed-rind cheeses such as Époisses or Brillat-Savarin.
Serving and Aging
The Beaune 1er Cru "Les Avaux" 2019 should be served slightly chilled, around 59 to 61°F, in large glasses to enhance the expression of its aromas. A brief decanting of about one hour is recommended to fully reveal its aromatic range.
An Exceptional Beaune 1er Cru from Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret, in Burgundy
The Estate
Founded in 1920 through the union of Eugène Mongeard and Edmée Mugneret, Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret is a family-run estate based in Vosne-Romanée, in the heart of Burgundy. The estate today farms approximately 30 hectares spread across 37 appellations, from the Côte de Nuits to the Côte de Beaune. Led since 1995 by Vincent Mongeard, with his wife Anne overseeing sales, the domaine is distinguished by its massal selection of Pinot Noir, known as Pinot Mongeard, and by its High Environmental Value certification.
The Vineyard
The Beaune 1er Cru "Les Avaux" comes from a plot of 45 ares 52 centiares farmed by the estate, within an appellation covering a total area of 13 hectares 79 ares 71 centiares. Located on the south-facing, central part of the slope, the vines grow on highly clay-limestone soil at an altitude of 235 meters. The vineyard is planted 100% with Pinot Noir, with an average vine age of 56 years. Harvesting is done entirely by hand, followed by rigorous sorting at the winery.
The Vintage
The 2019 vintage in Burgundy was marked by well-balanced climatic conditions, allowing the grapes to reach excellent ripeness and strong aromatic concentration. These favorable conditions produced wines that are both generous and elegant.
Winemaking and Aging
For the Beaune 1er Cru "Les Avaux" 2019, the grapes are 100% destemmed. Aging takes place in oak barrels, with 30 to 40% new oak, the remainder consisting of once- or twice-used barrels.
Grape Variety
This wine is made from 100% Pinot Noir.
