Description
An Intense Vouvray with Ripe Fruit and Mineral Notes
Domaine Huet, situated in the heart of the Vouvray appellation in the Loire, was founded in 1928 by Victor Huet. Today, his son Gaston runs the estate, which has since then expanded to 30 hectares, divided into three plots: Haut-Lieu, Mont and Clos du Bourg. Domaine Huet was one of the pioneers of biodynamic cultivation in the Loire, with all of the vineyards managed following the rhythms of the planets. Domaine Huet specializes in the Vouvray's flagship grape, Chenin Blanc, used to produce terroir-driven wines with remarkable finesse and subtlety. The Vouvray Clos du Bourg Demi Sec 2017 is a wine produced from one of the three estate plots, originally acquired by Huet in 1953. This 6-hectare vineyard is located just above the church of Vouvray and is surrounded by an ancient stone wall dating from the 9th century. This 100% Chenin Blanc is made from vines grown in very stony, limestone-rich clay soils and they enjoy a southern exposure. The vines are cultivated with biodynamic methods and the grapes harvested by hand. At the winery, the juice undergoes temperature-controlled fermentation in larg oak demi-muids with several previous uses, as well as stainless steel vats. Malolactic fermantation is not encouraged, in order to bring higher aging potential to the wines. The wines are matured in the large demi-muids. The wine is a demi-sec with around 10-20 g/L of residual sugar. The Vouvray Clos du Bourg Demi Sec 2017 presents an intensely yellow color in the glass. On the nose this certified biodynamic wine from the Loire releases an equally intense and clear bouquet of ripe white and yellow fruits (quince and apricot) as well as mineral notes of crushed stone and toasted hazelnut. The attack on the mouth is very fruit-driven and round, leading to a firm and structured texture on the palate. On the finish, this Vouvray is quite grippy and persistent, offering a great power beautifully balanced with elegance. Ready to drink now but can also be kept for 10-20 years.
