Description
The vivacity and delicacy of a great Hermitage white wine
The estate
For centuries, perched on a majestic hill in Tain-l'Hermitage, stands a monument of winemaking: the Maison Paul Jaboulet Aîné. Embodying the quintessence of the great wines of the Northern Rhône Valley, the estate joined the Frey Family in 2006. In search of innovation, the Frey family recently created a new setting for the production of two of its cuvées: La Chapelle and Chevalier de Stérimberg. Taking the name of the Domaine de la Chapelle, this new entity, which will be equipped with an exceptional winery designed by the renowned Danish architect Bjarke Ingels, reflects the quest for excellence pursued by Caroline Frey and her team to craft ever more precise wines.
The wine
Chevalier Gaspard de Sterimberg, wounded during the Albigensian Crusade in 1224, asked Queen Blanche of Castile for permission to settle on a hill where he founded his hermitage. There, he built the Chapelle Saint-Christophe in 1235.
The vineyard
The vines, approximately 35 years old, grow in clay-limestone and clay-sandy soils, giving this cuvée the complexity and elegance of a great Hermitage wine.
Blend
The 2020 Chevalier de Stérimberg from Domaine de la Chapelle is a blend of Marsanne and Roussanne.
