Description
The estate
Boasting ancient origins, Clos Rene was formerly known as "Reney" according to the map of engineer-geographer Pierre de Belleyme. The estate has been owned by the same family for several generations. It is now headed by Jean-Marie Garde.
The vineyard
The Château Clos René vineyard is located on the western slope of the Pomerol plateau, on the right bank of Bordeaux. With an average age of 35 years, the vines of the Château Clos Rene vineyard cover 15 hectares. The vines are planted in soils of ancient gravel and sand dating from the Quaternary period, resting upon subsoils of iron ore. The vineyard is planted to Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec.
