Description

Characteristics and tasting tips for the 2023 Prelude from Clos Apalta

Tasting

Color
Intense deep purple color, with inky undertones.

Nose
The nose reveals expressive aromas of ripe red fruits, delicate spices and a hint of aromatic herbs.

Palate
The attack is soft, supported by juicy tannins. The mid-palate builds with a silky texture, then stretches into a long, elegantly lifted finish.

The complexity and structure of a Chilean red wine

The estate

Nestled in the splendid Colchagua Valley, Clos Apalta has established itself as one of Chile’s most renowned estates. Clos Apalta’s unique microclimate, combined with preserved traditional know-how, forms the cornerstone of crafting exceptional artisan wines.

The vineyard

Situated on a remarkable terroir in the Central Valley, the vineyard spans 60 hectares, with some vines over 80 years old.

The wine

The estate’s latest release, Prelude is a Colchagua Valley wine that, crafted with the same rigor as Clos Apalta and Petit Clos, seduces with its fruit-driven structure.

The vintage

The 2023 vintage was early and hot, with a moderate water deficit and rainfall higher than in 2022, especially in June and July. Winter was cooler due to La Niña, followed by a sunny spring and summer with prolonged heatwaves. Harvesting took place from late February to late April.

Blend

Carmenère (50 %)
Cabernet sauvignon (40 %)
Merlot (10 %).
