    Description

An utterly flamboyant Clos Apalta wine

    The estate

Located in the beautiful Colchaga Valley, Clos Apalta by Casa Lapostolle has become one of the most famous estates in Chile. Clos Apalta's microclimate, along with its age-old know-how, contribute to the making of these exceptional wines.

    The vineyard

Poised on an exceptional terroir, the vineyard spreads over 60 hectares of vines, some of which are over 80 years old. Casa Lapostolle's Clos Apalta is a Central Valley wine renowned for its refinement and aromatic signature.

    The vintage

The 2017 vintage was challenging for the estate’s teams as the extreme weather conditions led to the propagation of wildfires, burning 600.000 hectares of forest in total. Fortunately, the estate’s vines were spared and the grapes were not affected by smoke taint. The temperatures throughout summer were extremely high but the temperature variations during the month of March enabled the grapes to reach their optimum ripeness levels. The grapes showcase an intense color all while revealing a fruity and fresh expression.

    Vinification and aging

The juice is macerated for 4 to 5 weeks with manual punching down. Fermentation is carried out in French oak vats and in new French oak barrels. The wine is aged for 27 months in French oak barrels (85% new and 15% second fill).

    The blend

    Carmenere (48%)
    Cabernet Sauvignon (26%)
    Merlot (25%)
    Petit Verdot (1%)
