Vinum

Dried apricots, nuts, raisins, dates, honey blossoms; rich, round, with silky texture and opulence, the acid structure brings lift and lets the flavors linger almost endlessly. A truly classy wine.

Wine Spectator

James Molesworth

This authoritative Sauternes starts off with an unctuous yet fresh feel. There’s admirable density to its notes of ginger, warmed peach, mirabelle plum, persimmon and green plum, with live-wire threads of bitter orange and almond that extend and support everything, plus tensile strength through the finish. A no-brainer classic. Drink now through 2055. 4,979 cases made.

The freshness of this wine combined with the honey-sugar density are just right. The taste of apricots, candied lemon zest, and a touch of spice are delicious, promising good aging. Drink from 2029.

Decanter

A top-notch Sauternes this vintage, with both exuberance and finesse in vivid - and clean - aromas and flavours of pear, apricot, pineapple, mango, mandarin peel and ginger, cinnamon and bergamot tea. The palate combines opulence with the fine acidity of the 2023 vintage, as the estate handled the late summer heat wave and went through the vineyard three times, to be sure to get the best botrytis. Long finish, and potential for higher score once bottled. Ageing in 50% new oak for about 18 months. 150 grams of residual sugar.

100% Sémillon. RS 150 g/l. Cask sample.Golden hue. Marmalade and barley-sugar notes on the nose. Smooth and suave on attack with a density of fruit behind. Sweet but refreshing, the bitter-botrytised character and enhanced acidity leaving the palate fresh and clean. Very pure and long. Appetising and with great potential. (JL)

Vinous

The 2023 Suduiraut is a knockout Sauternes for the vintage. Very pure on the nose with wild honey, apricot and touches of lychee, this is packed with botrytised fruit. The palate has just the right amount of viscosity without overloading in terms of weight, making this relatively easier drinking compared to other vintages. Irresistible. 150 g/L residual sugar.

Even better from the bottle, this is a spell-binding sweet wine that lovers of this genre cannot be without. Intense, electric, and packed with ripe and overripe, honey-slathered tropical fruits, cashews, white peaches, and vanilla beans, Opulent and seductive, with more than enough racy acidity for balance, lift, and freshness. You can enjoy this young for all its sweet fruits, or age it for decades. The choice is yours. The wine was made from 100% Semillon. Drink from 2029-2060.

Medium golden yellow, silver reflections. Delicate lanolin, ripe tropical fruit, delicate honey touch, a hint of apricot confit. Fine oak kiss on the palate, ripe mango fruit, pleasant, integrated sweetness, powerful and mineral, fine honey note, sure development and certain ageing potential.

Powerful, concentrated, silky, pink grapefruit, mango, white truffle, quince, grilled cumin seeds; edges of grated ginger and bitter almond add depth and contrast. Excellent.

Le Figaro Vin

Score: 95-97. Aromas of apricot and peach on the nose, with the bright lift of verbena. Rich, with a whole range of flavours spanning fruit and flowers, with a touch of refined herbal notes.

Yves Beck

From the outset, Suduiraut’s bouquet asserts itself with compelling depth and an extraordinary aromatic complexity. Notes of toasted almonds, coconut and nougat mingle with hints of white flowers, raspberries, mandarin zest and passion fruit. Smooth on the attack, the wine stands out for its scope and breadth, and for its ability to temper its concentration, complemented by precious bitter notes that underscore freshness, expression and persistence. A subtle austerity counters—or completes—its suave hold. A brilliantly harmonious wine with considerable power, perfectly framed. A truly great wine that will win over generations—past, present and future!

Jean-Marc Quarin

Jean-Marc Quarin

Yellow colour with coppery highlights. The nose is intense, refined, fruity and pure, with a hint of fresh almonds. Delicate on entry, very aromatic on the mid-palate, with a graceful texture and a melting body, the wine develops with a juicy, suave yet dynamic character. It finishes with a light spicy note and is impossible to spit out.

Description

Characteristics and tasting tips for Château Suduiraut 2023

Tasting

This vintage reveals delicious fresh and candied citrus aromas on tasting.

A generous and indulgent Sauternes wine

The estate

The Château Suduiraut, a First Growth classified in 1855 in AOC Sauternes, is a promised land of 92 ha dedicated to the vine. Adjoining the vines of Château d'Yquem, Château Suduiraut is a 17th century estate whose gardens were designed by André Le Nôtre.

The vineyard

Château Suduiraut 2023 is a Sauternes wine from a vineyard certified for High Environmental Value and planted on sandy-clay gravel soil. This very filtering and lean soil pushes the vine to draw deeply from its terroir, thus reinforcing the character of the latter in the wines. The vines are cultivated on a parcel basis and according to the principles of sustainable agriculture.

The vintage

The winter is marked by both significant rainfall and a frost episode in early April, which has little impact on the vineyard thanks to late bud break. The mildness of a warm and dry spring is ideal for the development of the vineyard. The flowering is homogeneous and qualitative. If the month of July is marked by a strong mildew pressure, the beginning of August is cool and overcast before a dry and warm climatology ensuring optimal maturity of the grapes.

Vinification and ageing

Harvest in 3 passes. After precision vinification, the wine is aged for 12 to 20 months in barrels (50% new and 50% of one wine).

Blend

Sémillon (100%).
