Description

Characteristics and tasting tips for Château Smith Haut Lafitte 2023 white

Tasting

Nose
The nose reveals intense aromas of yellow and white fruits accompanied by a notable freshness. Then a floral complexity is revealed with delicate touches of acacia flower and lime, complemented by spicy nuances.

Palate
On the palate, the attack surprises with its lively freshness and pleasant creaminess. The initial freshness gives way to a full expression of maturity and richness. The wine is ample and powerful, while being supported by a refreshing acidic structure. The length on the palate is remarkable, combining opulence and delicate freshness for a refined finish. A marked perception of sapidity ends the tasting experience. The aromas on the palate recall those of the nose, combining yellow fruits, citrus, pink grapefruit, and a floral and spicy touch, offering a beautiful aromatic complexity and a persistent finish, a reflection of the flintstone terroir.

A persistent and delicate Pessac-Léognan white wine

The estate

Located in the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation and dating back to 1365, the Château Smith Haut Lafitte is one of the oldest châteaux in Bordeaux. This magnificent estate entered a new era of its history following its purchase by Daniel and Florence Cathiard in 1990. Driven with passion and ambition by the Cathiard couple, Château Smith Haut Laffite has risen to the rank of the most beautiful estates in Graves with wines renowned worldwide for their elegance and style, both in red and white.

The vineyard

This Château Smith Haut Lafitte white 2023 is a Pessac-Léognan wine from a dedicated vineyard whose vines are 39 years old on average. The château uses its own vine plants thanks to a mother vine preserved in the nursery on Lalande Island.

Vinification and ageing

The manually harvested grapes undergo direct and delicate pressing in an inert environment. Cold static settling before fermentation in barrels (50% new) from the cooperage integrated into the château. Ageing on lees for 12 months in barrels (50% new, 50% of one wine).

Blend

Sauvignon Blanc (90%)
Sémillon (5%)
Sauvignon Gris (5%).
