Pomerol Wine - Chateau Saint-Pierre 2020

The 2020 Saint-Pierre (Pomerol) is a powerful, virile wine endowed with terrific depth and tons of character. Super-ripe dark plum, gravel, chocolate, incense and licorice meld together in this plush, explosive Pomerol. There's plenty of tannin, but very good balance as well.

Flowers, chocolate-covered plums, espresso and licorice create the catchy nose. Darkly colored, lush, medium-bodied, polished, with a blast of chocolate-covered, supple dark red fruits, licorice and smoke on the finish. I am really liking this wine. This is the best vintage of Saint Pierre Pomerol yet. 90-92 pts

I was thrilled to see the 2020 Château Saint-Pierre (Pomerol) show so well as it comes from a terrific terroir and has been a touch erratic in the past (although it's always good). A blend of 87% Merlot and 13% Cabernet Franc from vines near Vieux Château Certan and Le Pin, it has a beautiful perfume of darker cherries, currants, chocolate, earthy tobacco, and loamy soil. This carries to a medium to full-bodied Pomerol with fine, polished tannins, a layered, balanced mouthfeel, and a great finish. It's a beautiful 2020 that readers will love. It should evolve for 15 years if well-stored.
