Saint Julien Wine - Chateau Saint-Pierre 2019

The wine’s style has evolved toward greater finesse, with more precise oak handling. This is clear in the very elegant 2019, with its creamy texture and a seamless, harmonious finish. One of the château’s finest successes.

Ripe and well-built, with a gentle, understated stylistic approach and a rounded feel, as warm earth, sweet tobacco and savory details permeate a core of friendly plum, black cherry and cassis flavors. Features a long iron note, which adds subtle tension through the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Best from 2024 through 2038.

Such an expressive nose, high-toned, floral, a bit wild with some medicinal aspects, coffee, leather and cola notes. The texture is just gorgeous; there’s a chewiness you find in a lot of the St-Julien’s, but it’s soft, generous, round and wonderfully mouth-filling. Then a deep core of fruits comes in with black liquorice, underpinned by excellent cooling acidity and menthol freshness. I like this a lot. Great florality and perfume surrounding the fruit on the palate, too. This has a seductive appeal with rich fruit and rich spicing.

Very pretty and typical for the appellation with aromas of blackcurrants, violets and sandalwood that follow through to a full body with layers of polished tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Lasts a long time on the palate. Classic structure. Drink after 2027.

Blackberries, red pit fruits, flowers, tobacco leaf and red currants are the first things you notice. The wine is soft, fresh and creamy on the palate, leaving you with a wealth of vibrant, lusciously textured, rich, sweet, red and black fruits on the finish. This is a top vintage for Saint Pierre. Drink from 2028-2050.

Dark ruby, opaque core, purple reflections, delicate rim brightening. Developed nose of dried plum, ripe fig, cocoa, a hint of vanilla and nougat. Complex, very powerful, appears a touch overripe, aromatically more in the direction of vintage port, ripe tannins, sweet finish, very juicy, could turn into a great wine with time.

I continue to love the wines from this château, and the 2019 Château Saint-Pierre (Saint-Julien) is no exception, revealing a dense purple hue as well as a great nose of ripe blackcurrants, green tobacco, cedar pencil, and chocolate. With rock-solid concentration, medium to full body, ripe yet building tannins, and the vintage's pure, balanced character, give bottles 4–5 years and it will evolve nicely for 25+.

Deep purple with a black core. A delicate perfume of freshly picked blackberries, Alpine blueberries, and perfumed pipe tobacco. On the second nose, licorice and malty notes. On the noble palate, with a creamy texture and supporting, finely grained tannins; carried by a perfectly structuring drive, the wine moves lightly through the room like a ballet dancer. In the aromatic, long-lasting finish, a firework of blackcurrants, profound minerality, and juniper. It reminds me of the two legendary vintages 2009 (for fruit intensity) and 2010 (for depth and structure). Belongs on every shopping list.

Violet-edged, with sculpted fruit and an enticing mix of precision and generosity, with classic St Julien balance. Great depth of fruit, crushed rocks, smoked earth, tobacco. Takes time to show itself, but there is sweet blackberry fruit here, and a purity of expression that has clear long-term potential. At this point they were working 15% organic, before switching to 100% the following year. 49% new oak. Harvest September 23 to October 4, Eric Boissenot consultant.

This wine offers a beautifully deep nose with aromas of black fruit (blackberries and concentrated small berries) and cinnamon, which unfolds with great flair toward heady, mysterious, mineral notes. The minerality lingers on the palate, giving the impression of licking finely porous stones. A characterful wine with controlled power.

A very precise bouquet revealing multiple facets through nuances of redcurrant and cassis, followed by classic eucalyptus notes. In short, fruit and freshness enhanced by spicy hints. On the palate, the wine shows fine-grained, somewhat supple tannins. It is inviting, broad, and well supported by its acidic structure. Everything seems perfectly measured, balanced, and thus precise. A wine that settles in gently and will please both in its youth and with maturity.

Dark, intense, and beautiful color. Very aromatic nose—refined, fruity, pure, and subtle. Delicate on the attack, silky mid-palate, melting texture, with body and plenty of flavor. The wine stretches out on the finish, sappy, long, with flavors of black fruit and fine tannins. It’s very good.
