Description
The estate
Owned by the Henri Martin estates, Château Saint-Pierre is a 4th Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Julien. Through the motivation of the dynamic Henri Martin, the Château Saint-Pierre vineyard has been diligently rebuilt to the way it existed in 1855. This estate now features among the most famous Grand Cru Classés of this emblematic appellation.
The vineyard
Château Saint-Pierre is a Saint-Julien wine, from a vineyard that stretches across a 17-hectare area.
The vintage
Although the beginning of the year was mild, frost arrived in April, but it had no impact on the vineyard. The amount of rain recorded during the spring led to high pressure on the vineyard’s health and a slow and uneven flowering. May and June were marked by heavy rainfall accompanied by storms. A hot and dry July gave way to a more unstable August, delaying the veraison. The dry conditions combined with a wide temperature range during the months of September and October were ideal for refining the ripening process.
Winemaking and ageing
Plot-based harvests, passing through each plot several times to make sure the yield was at the best ripeness. Vinification adapted to each terroir in a new vat room ensuring great precision in terms of fermentation and maceration temperatures as well as in the working of the press wines. The wine was aged in barrels with a proportion of 50% new wood.
Blend
This Château Saint-Pierre 2008 stems from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (83%) and Merlot (18%).
