The precision and finesse of a Pauillac Grand Cru Classe

The estate

The 5th Pauillac Grand Cru Classe, Chateau Pontet-Canet has experienced a spectacular ascension to becoming one of the most iconic brands of the Medoc region. Managed by Justine and Alfred Tesseron, Chateau Pontet-Canet has established itself as one of the pioneers of biodynamic viticulture in the Pauillac appellation, with results that exceed all expectations. From one vintage to the next, the estate has become one of the finest references on the left bank of Bordeaux.

The vineyard

Certified Ecocert and Biodyvin for 10 years, the Chateau Pontet-Canet vineyard, which covers 81 hectares, is managed in a way that respects both the vines and the surrounding environment. Horses are used on the vines in order to avoid soil compaction. Biodynamic practices are carried out on the estate. Thanks to their work and their perfect understanding of the vineyard, the estate's technical teams enable the vines to reach their full potential and thus, produce fine Pauillac wines.

The vintage

A mild winter gave way to a very rainy spring, slowing down the vegetative cycle and particularly the flowering period. From mid-July onwards, the climate was hot and dry until the beginning of autumn, which was marked by significant rainfall. A rigorous sorting during the harvest allowed us to select only the highest quality grapes.

The blend

Cabernet Sauvignon (65%)

Merlot (30%)

Cabernet Franc (4%)

Petit Verdot (1%).

Wine Advocate-Parker :
This impeccably run, biodynamically farmed estate of Alfred Tesseron goes from strength to strength. The 2012 triumphs once again with its notes of dark plum, blackcurrant, licorice and almost a hint of truffle, its full-bodied, supple tannins, and beautiful, expensive mouthfeel. Complex and deep, this dense ruby/purple-colored wine may not be at the level of the 2009 or 2010, but it is a successful wine in this vintage, and a significant wine in 2012. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2035.
