Description
Two expressions of an illustrious Pessac-Léognan estate
The estate
Chateau Les Carmes Haut-Brion, an illustrious Pessac-Leognan estate, is located on the left bank of Bordeaux. Founded in the 16th century, this vineyard provides a unique expression of its terroir, thanks to the work of a visionary owner and talented craftsmen. Acquired by the Pichet real estate group in 2010, Château Les Carmes-Haut-Brion is now one of the most distinguished estates in the Pessac-Leognan appellation.
The vineyard
Chateau Les Carmes Haut-Brion produces Pessac-Leognan wines from 30.75 hectares of vines, 7.60 hectares of which are dedicated to the estate’s First Wine. The vines, which are almost 40 years old, are planted on Mindel gravel upon a clay-limestone base.
Two unique and remarkable expressions from the same century
"Hommage au siècle par Carmes Haut-Brion" celebrates the century between 1917 and 2017, along with all the men and women who have marked the history of the estate.
This unique box set features two expressions of the estate's spirit: a 100% Cabernet Franc of Chateau les Carmes Haut-Brion in a Marie-Jeanne bottling and a perfume called "L'eau des Carmes".
This limited edition set brings an emblematic Bordeaux bottle back to life, whose format had been forgotten since the 1950s: the Marie-Jeanne. Comprising 2.25 liters of wine, the low, wide shape of the Marie-Jeanne had been replaced by longer and more slender bottles to facilitate transport. The Marie-Jeanne has a unique shape and distinctive curves and enables the wine to be kept for a longer period of time, thus improving its aging potential.
Perfect for any wine collector, the idea of creating a unique and distinctive bottle came from the talented Guillaume Pouthier, Director of Carmes Haut-Brion. He wanted to pay tribute to the rich heritage and history of the chateau while highlighting the modern spirit of the estate, which has become one of the finest references in the Pessac-Leognan appellation. This unusual and bespoke bottle is presented in a transparent glass case, designed to optimize the bottle's perservation.
This Marie-Jeanne is complemented by a fragrance expressing the spirit of Carmes Haut-Brion. ''Bijou'' is a heartfelt and fitting tribute to the great lady who was born in 1917 and lived at the estate for many years. The fragrance reveals subtle hints of iris, violet and musk, as well as refreshing woody notes that are also slightly powdery, reminiscent of the popular fragrances at the time.
