Chateau Latour-Martillac 2001

Once again this deep ruby/purple-colored offering’s aggressive levels of toasty new oak dominate its spicy, medium-bodied, monolithic personality. There is good depth, but the tannin and oak have the upper hand. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2013.

Complex aromas of smoke, berries and leaves follow through to a medium- to full-bodied palate, with fine tannins and a medium finish. Fresh herb aftertaste. Best after 2007. 11,950 cases made.

Dense and much more like the 2002 than most other red bordeaux. Very stodgy and it fades a bit on the finish. (JR)

Deep cherry color with a ruby rim. Expansive, soft blackberry bouquet with candied sugar notes, harmonious and highly aromatic. On the palate, a velvety suppleness, soft tannins with a sweet glow, blackcurrant notes, and a delicate, fine finish. A wine that seems almost light, yet carries the aromatics of a great vintage.

On the palate, showing velvety suppleness, soft, sweet-tinged tannins, blackcurrant, and a delicate, fine finish. A robust wine showing a lovely evolution (leather, forest floor). The palate remains silky, and the elegant tannins melt away.

Dark red color. Good intensity. Lovely. Nose of medium intensity. Discreet. Fruity. Quite fine. Smoky. Round but also tannic right from the attack; the wine continues to unfold in soft curves and retains an underlying, slightly woody tannic structure. Finish with well-contained tannins, licorice notes, and persistent fruit. Normal length.
