Description
A fresh and balanced red wine from Saint-Estephe
The estate
The origins of Chateau Laffitte Carcasset date back to the beginning of the 18th century. Located in the heart of the Saint-Estephe appellation, Chateau Laffitte Carcasset is surrounded by some of the finest estates of Bordeaux. Purchased by the Rousseau family in 2016, the property classified Cru Bourgeois Superieur is an important reference in the appellation.
The vineyard
The Chateau Laffitte-Carcasset vineyard covers 35 hectares. Located on the Saint-Estephe plateau, the vines, 30 years old on average, are planted on soils of Garonne gravel and clay-limestone subsoils.
The vintage
2020 was among the 5 earliest vintages in the last 20 years. The warm winter favored an early beginning to the vegetative cycle, followed by a sunny and rainy spring, which favoring even flowering. The particularly hot summer was marked by periods of scorching temperatures which, thanks to the soil's ability to preserve its water reserves, did not impact the vineyard. The rainy episode before August 15 was beneficial for the development of the vines and for perfecting the ripening process. The harvest began two weeks ahead of schedule, on average. The sanitary conditions were perfect and the grapes showed very ripe aromatic expressions.
Vinification and aging
The grapes were selected on an intra-plot basis. Fermentation was carried out in the new gravity-fed vat (stainless steel and concrete) in order to favor slow and gentle extractions. Aging lasted 12 months in oak barrels (40% of which were new oak barrels).
The blend
The Chateau Laffitte Carcasset 2020 is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (53%), Merlot (44%) and Cabernet Franc (3%).
The tasting
Displaying a beautifully intense color, the Chateau Laffitte Carcasset 2020 seduces with its fruity aromas, its balance, its smooth texture and beautifully saline aromas. This sunny vintage reveals great freshness, tension and aging potential.
