Description

Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Château La Pointe 2024

Tasting

The 2024 vintage offers moderate concentration and a well-controlled alcohol level. It stands out for its aromatic finesse, balance, and harmonious structure.

An Elegant Pomerol Wine with Silky Tannins

The Estate

The Château La Pointe, established in 1868, is one of the oldest estates in Pomerol, a prestigious Bordeaux appellation. The vineyard covers 26 hectares, with soils ranging from gravel to clay. Since 2007, under the direction of Eric Monneret and owned by Generali, the estate has undergone a revival, regaining its former prestige. The uniqueness of Château La Pointe lies in its triangular parcel, which gave it its name, and its Directoire-style château.

The Vineyard

Located in the heart of the Pomerol appellation, the Château La Pointe vineyard benefits from an exceptional terroir made up of gravel and pebble soils from the Isle terraces, as well as clay-gravel and sandy soils over clay or gravel. This geological diversity gives the wines their complexity and distinctive character. The 26 hectares are farmed using eco-friendly methods that respect the environment.

The Vintage

A rainy winter replenished the soil’s water reserves, vital for the summer. The early, mild spring led to an early budbreak without major frost damage. However, the cool, humid conditions disrupted flowering, causing coulure and millerandage, leading to a 25% reduction in yield, especially for Merlot. Despite heavy downy mildew pressure, losses remained limited (5%) thanks to rigorous technical monitoring. The uneven véraison required targeted green harvesting. The dry, moderately warm summer allowed good phenolic ripening.

Blend

79% Merlot and 21% Cabernet Franc.
