Chateau La Pointe 2022

Fresher than en primeur, garrigue spices over dark and red berries; distinctly elegant on the palate, fine tannic framework, red-fruited finish. A fresh, vibrant La Pointe with plenty of charm.

Friendly notes of cherry and raspberry flesh out nicely as they air in the glass, picking up rooibos tea, sandalwood, iris and savory accents through the fresh, polished finish. Nicely done. Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2035. 4,208 cases made, 1,500 cases imported.

A fragrant and lifted nose. Lovely pure fruit with a cool, chalky edge combining fresh acidity with a mineral core. Feels a little subdued at this point, the juicy strawberry elements just overtaken by a liquorice and crushed stone tang, but it’s sleek and well built. Excellent definition and gentle persistence, leaving the finish long and layered. Feels classy and confident.

84% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Franc. Cask sample. Notably fragrant – almost floral. Not the most concentrated, nor the freshest, but a pretty wine with no rough edges. Just a slight suggestion of super-ripe fruit. And not that much tannin. Slightly messy finish. (JR)

The 2022 La Pointe is a classy, elegant Pomerol. Silky tannins, lifted aromatics and a gracious, mid-weight structure lend notable charm throughout. Spice, rose petal and blood orange lift a core of red-toned fruit in this elegant, poised La Pointe.

A vibrant, refined, fresh, and silky style of Pomerol, with a core of sweet, lifted red berries and spice on the palate. The wine is soft, with a polish to its fruits, leaving you with a refreshing touch of crisp red pit fruits and mint in the endnote of the finish. Drink from 2025-2045.

Rich plum in colour, with touches of smoked caramel, espresso, liquorice and sweet oak on the opening, this is luscious, with plenty of Pomerol character, easy to love, a crowd pleaser with grilled spices and damson fruit, fully ripe with the ability to age. The nose quivers in the nostrils with sappy aromas, blending taut little red and black berries with floral hyacinth nuances, underpinned by a mocha base note. The palate, sumptuous, unfolds a cocooning texture, evoking the infinite softness of a cashmere drape, yet always with that vein of savory freshness.

First and foremost, it is freshness that leads this wine’s bouquet. Beyond hints of eucalyptus, the nose reveals notes of raspberries and a touch of licorice. On the palate, the wine makes the most of the generosity of the vintage, placing it within an elegant and slender context. The result is exemplary balance, focused on finesse and sapidity.
