A delicate and aromatic red wine from Pomerol

The property

The Chateau La Pointe vineyard covers 22 hectares, planted on a mosaic of soils, which gives the wines of the property a unique and delicate style. With the help of Hubert de Bouard de Laforest, co-owner of Chateau Angelus, the estate team has developed its vineyard practices, since 2008, with their aim being to best express the full potential of this reference of the Pomerol appellation.

The vintage

2020, like 2019 and 2018, was marked by a contrasting climate, which led to a great vintage. The heavy rainfall during the winter and spring created water reserves that proved to be crucial during a particularly hot and dry summer. A few rainy days before the harvest made it possible to refine the ripening of the fruit. The harvest, which started very early, took place under very good weather conditions. In recent years, the estate teams have carried out a thorough work in the vineyards, to allow the soil and vines to better absorb the shocks brought about by excessive climatic conditions. This also contributed significantly to the success of the vintage. Singular in its style, this 2020 vintage combines the opulence of 2018 and the elegance of 2019 to create what is, arguably, the best vintage produced by the property so far.

Vinification and aging

The gentle extractions favored during the vinification lend this vintage a good balance, fine and silky tannins as well as a great acidity.

The blend

The Chateau La Pointe 2020 was made from a blend of Merlot (76%) and Cabernet Franc (24%).

The tasting

Color

The wine displays a deep ruby ​​color. Intense purple reflections mingle with a certain brightness, expressing a perfect balance between ripe fruit and fresh aromas.

Nose

A complex nose combines aromas of wild black berries, floral notes (peony and violet,) as well as spicy notes (black pepper and sandalwood).

Palate

Opulent and elegant, the palate seduces with its purity, its smooth touch and its beautiful tension.
