Vinum

Intense ruby red; fragrant nose with ripe-fruit notes, cherries, plums, cool smoke, licorice, the oak barely perceptible; elegant on the palate, light-bodied, mild, well-wrapped tannins, forest berry yogurt on the finish. A wine that will already be enjoyable to drink in its youth.

Decanter

Bright acidity with slightly chalky, dry, stalky tannins. Good freshness with mint, clove, cedar — a little touched by oak right now, but it’s clean and there’s a sense of drive from start to finish. A little compact, blueberry, perfumed, some greenness, something bitter on the finish, but there’s good detail.

Cocoa, plums, licorice, and just a hint of espresso form the core here. Medium-bodied, vibrant, chewy, bright, and plummy, with a chocolate-inspired end note. You can enjoy this with ease upon release and for a decade or more afterward. The wine blends 95% Merlot with 5% Cabernet Franc. 13.5% ABV. Harvesting took place September 20 - October 5. Drink from 2027-2038. 89-91 pts

Le Figaro Vin

A lovely sapid, floral, and bright nose. On the palate, a succulent, caressing texture with immediate approachability, carried by subtle salinity toward a toasted mocha finish. A true delight.

Clay-sandy soils. The bouquet unfolds with finesse, bridging floral and fruity nuances. On the palate, the wine is linear, slightly creamy and perfectly balanced. Its tannins are still somewhat tight, but they will certainly integrate during ageing. A refreshing, juicy finish.

Soft extraction, ruby fruits, fine tannins, serving up pretty red fruits, unfussy, fresh acidities on the finish and a kiss of gunsmoke, full of cheer if soft on the finish. No need to wait too long to begin drinking. Harvest 27 September to 4 October, 32hl/h after a severe sorting.

Jean-Marc Quarin

Jean-Marc Quarin

Deep red colour, of normal intensity. The nose is initially discreet, becoming more aromatic and fruit-forward with a swirl of the glass. The palate is supple, fruity, flavoursome and pleasant, with medium body and length. Best enjoyed young. Blend: 95% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc. Alcohol: 13.5% - pH: 3.5.

The silkiness and richness of a Pomerol wine

The estate

The Château La Croix du Casse, located in Bordeaux, was acquired by the Casteja family in 2005, after belonging to the Audy family since 1956. Thanks to a remarkable vineyard and top-level technical facilities, the estate produces seductive wines that are true to the elegance and richness characteristic of this prestigious terroir.

The vineyard

The vineyard of Château La Croix du Casse enjoys a privileged position at the southern tip of the Pomerol plateau. The vines flourish on a characteristic terroir composed of gravel and ancient sands, resting on a subsoil particularly rich in iron pan. This unique geological composition imparts the wines with their distinctive character and remarkable aging potential.

The vintage

The year 2024 began with a cold and wet winter, followed by a mild but erratic spring. Bud break occurred around March 20, with significant rainfall. Flowering took place from mid-May to early June in unstable weather conditions. July saw improvement, followed by an ideal August, while September remained uncertain.

Vinification and aging

Plot-by-plot vinification in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation, followed by aging in French oak barrels, 50% new wood, for a period of 18 months.
