Decanter

Punchy and bright, lively and high-toned with plenty of juiciness on show. A touch restricted and lacking a little in Pomerol plushness, but there’s energy and brightness with some serious tannins and edges of tobacco, dried herbs, liquorice and cedar. Quite robust and a bit severe and tight on the end, but with nice freshness.

Plums, cocoa, herbs, and flowers form the perfume. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, fresh, juicy, fruity, soft-textured, forward, upbeat, and already charming in your glass, with its minty, plummy, and cocoa endnote. The wine blends 96% Merlot, with 4% Cabernet Franc. 14.5% ABV. Drink from 2026-2038. 90-92 Pts.

Weinwisser

Intense blueberry bouquet, fragrant cassis blossoms, graphite and licorice. On the elegant palate, supportive freshness with a mineral core. The focused finish shows blue berries, wax notes and refined spice. Well accomplished this year.

Vinum

Dark-fruited, blackberries, herbal spice, licorice, smoky notes; on the palate elegant, fresh, fine tannins, delicate core of fruit, balanced, every element in its place; medium length, spicy finish. A real pleasure even when young.

A full-bodied and lively Pomerol red wine

The estate

Owned by the Castéja family since 2005, the Château La Croix du Casse is a very serious reference of the Pomerol appellation, on the right bank of Bordeaux. Equipped with high-performance tools and benefiting from an exceptional vineyard, the estate stands out for its great Pomerol wines full of charm and seduction expressing all the typicity of the appellation.

The vineyard

Located at the southern tip of the Pomerol plateau, the vineyard of Château La Croix du Casse extends over a terroir characteristic of the appellation, made up of gravel and ancient sands with a sub-layer containing a significant proportion of iron slag.

The vintage

A late bud break due to alternating mild and cool periods in March precedes a spring whose humid and warm conditions lead to high mildew pressure. Subsequently, more clement weather promotes homogeneous flowering, as well as fruit set. Warm, the month of June is punctuated by rainy episodes sometimes stormy, before a dry and relatively cool July. Slow and progressive, the veraison gives the berries a refreshing acidity. The high temperatures recorded from August 15th result in a significant slowdown in maturation without losing aromatic richness.

Blend

Merlot (96%)
Cabernet Franc (4%).
