Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for Château Gazin 2025

Tasting

Appearance
The wine reveals a deep, intense, and remarkably radiant purple color.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet is complex, harmoniously blending aromas of black fruits such as blackberry and blueberry with notes of fresh fruits like raspberry and redcurrant.

Palate
On the palate, this wine offers a velvety roundness supported by silky tannins. Excellent freshness brings balance and liveliness, while hints reminiscent of blue clay lend it a truly distinctive character.

Food and wine pairings
This great red wine pairs beautifully with richly flavored meats such as roast or braised beef, duck, lamb, or game like venison. It also complements mushroom-based dishes, Asian cuisine, as well as aged cheeses such as reblochon.

Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate this vintage in its youth, it is recommended to decant it two to three hours before serving, ideally at a temperature of 15.5°C. With remarkable aging potential, it can be cellared and enjoyed until around 2045.

The elegance and complexity of a Pomerol wine

The estate
Located in the renowned region of Bordeaux, Château Gazin was officially established as a wine estate in 1772. This vast single-block vineyard covers 26 hectares. Today, the estate is managed by Élise and Édouard de Bailliencourt, representing the fifth generation of the family. With a heritage linked to the Knights of the Order of Malta, this cru stands out for its environmental commitment and the production of wines combining power and refinement, making it one of the benchmark estates of its terroir.

The vineyard
The estate enjoys an exceptional location on the upper terrace of the Pomerol plateau. The vines thrive on a terroir composed of Günzian gravel at the surface and a subsoil rich in blue and green clays containing iron oxides, known as "crasse de fer". Certified Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE 3), the vineyard is farmed using sustainable practices, including manual ploughing, exclusive use of organic fertilizers, and sexual confusion to protect the vines.

Winemaking and aging
The growing season resulted in harvests carried out manually, plot by plot, according to the optimal ripeness of each berry. The harvest extended from the end of August to mid-September, allowing grapes to be picked in perfect sanitary condition and with ideal phenolic ripeness. After manual harvesting and rigorous sorting, the wine undergoes careful aging in barrels for a period of 14 to 16 months. This maturation phase is carried out with 40% new oak barrels and 60% once-used barrels, refining the structure without masking the expression of the fruit. Alcohol: 13.5% vol.

Grape varieties

This Château Gazin 2025 is a blend of Merlot (87%), Cabernet Sauvignon (10%), and Cabernet Franc (3%).
