Vinum

A very fruity, juicy and racy Duhart, with silky, polished tannins and perfectly integrated oak.

Black fruit and toast aromas give this wine its perfumed character. It is generous—celebrating Cabernet Sauvignon—and structured, dominated by succulent blackberry fruits. It has aging potential. Drink from 2027.

Decanter

After a few minutes, soft notes of dark chocolate, red cherry, blackcurrant, green peppercorns and strawberry leaf emerge from the glass. Full and smooth on the palate—silky and sustaining—with a lovely fresh juiciness and a matching texture that gives a broad expression, layered with chalk, wet stone, graphite and blackcurrant. It feels nicely structured, not opulent at all—true to the vintage—yet with a certain fullness and real character. Beautifully delivered. I love the juiciness here, truly mouthwatering—clean and clear—precise, yet carefully presented, with a delightful texture and a long menthol finish. Very enjoyable and already very easy to drink. Subtle and nuanced, utterly moreish, with flavours that really linger. So smooth and silky.

Flowers, black cherries, earth and a hint of coffee bean for the nose. On the medium-bodied palate, the wine is soft, fresh, gentle and elegant, with a focus on the purity in the fruit, and the refinement in the tannins in the mid-palate and in the finish. The wine is a blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon and 19% Merlot. This is the second vintage produced in the new cellars which helped a lot this year, due to the ability to vinify on a parcel by parcel basis. Drink from 2024-2042. 91-93

Falstaff

Dark ruby garnet colour with purple reflections, subtle ochre brightening on the rim. Ripe heart cherries, a delicate hint of orange blossom, red berry confit, a subtle touch of precious wood. Medium body, fine confit, fresh acidity, fine tannins, salty minerality, a balanced food wine.

The 2021 Château Duhart-Milon brings another level of richness, yet it still plays in the pretty, medium-bodied, elegant style of the vintage. Slightly darker red and black fruits, tobacco, and leather all define the aromatics, and it has ultra-fine tannins, beautiful overall balance, and the class to evolve nicely for 15 years or more. I think it's a beautiful wine.

Finessed, precision-cut tannins, this is a successful Duhart in the old school style, showing that here they are able to deliver a sombre, subdued but high-quality take on tannic Cabernet sauvignon. Crushed mint leaf, crayon, raspberry leaf, slate, fresh earth. Slightly higher Cabernet in the blend than usual, this perfectly encapsulates the harmony and drinkablity of 2021 in the right hands, and is one of the few that you can see really developing like a 2001, classic Duhart. 1st year organic conversion, 30hl/h yields, 50% new oak, Eric Kohler technical director, Olivier Bonneau deputy technical director (previously at Château d'Arsac).

A blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon and 19% Merlot, the 2021 Duhart-Milon has a deep garnet-purple color. It comes bounding out with eager-to-please notes of juicy plums and ripe raspberries, plus underlying hints of redcurrants, pencil shavings, and dried lavender hints. The light-bodied palate has lots of zip and zing, with bright red berry flavors and grainy tannins to match, finishing with a real skip in its step.

You can sense the Cabernet structure, lending the 2021 a straight, well-defined profile, though its ageing is still a little marked. The finish lingers with brightness and silky, well-integrated tannins, with smoky notes. Another fine success in this softer vintage.

Le Figaro Vin

With a record proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon (81%), the nose feels like a great breath of fresh air, scented with small wildflowers, delicate herbs and hay. Notes of cocoa pulp and a hint of tonka bean also emerge in this complex, almost fragile bouquet. The palate shows impressive ripeness of fruit and tannins, while remaining finely chiselled and precise. An intriguing balance that makes you want to come back for more.

Dark, intense, vibrant, purple color. A highly aromatic nose—refined, pure, fruity, and lightly smoky. Right from the attack, the wine delivers an unprecedented sensation of airy flesh. It melts on the palate, juicy and noble in its texture. Everything feels calm and composed. It’s delicious and impossible to spit out. A feeling of luxury.

The 2021 Duhart-Milon has turned out beautifully, offering up incipiently complex aromas of dark berries and cassis mingled with notions of orange zest, burning embers, pencil lead and iris. Medium to full-bodied, suave and polished, with a layered core of fruit, supple tannins and a long, sapid finish, it will offer a broad drinking window.

Description

A seductively precise and aromatic Pauillac wine

The estate

In the heart of the Pauillac appellation, Chateau Duhart-Milon is a perfect representative of its appellation. This 4th Classified Growth of Pauillac was founded in the 18th century under the leadership of the Lafite family, who covered Pauillac with vines at that time.

The vineyard

Duhart-Milon 2021 is a Pauillac wine that stems from a 76-hectare vineyard located to the west of Chateau Lafite-Rothschild. The soils are composed of fine gravel and aeolian sand upon tertiary limestone subsoils.

The vintage

2021 is a less sunny vintage which has enabled each terroir to express its nuances, including the young 5-year-old vines. The blend is mainly composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, resulting in a wine that reveals the estate’s signature identity and style, that is to say a pleasant framework and the expression of perfectly ripe fruit. The harvest took place from September 22nd to October 8th.
