Description

An elegant and expressive Pomerol wine

The property

Located in the northwest of Pomerol, the Château de Sales is a historic property on the right bank of Bordeaux. The château has belonged to the Lambert family for over five centuries.

The vineyard

Located in the heart of Pomerol, the Château de Sales vineyard benefits from an exceptional terroir mainly composed of clay-limestone soils. This particular composition, ideal for the development of merlot, gives the wines their distinctive character.

The vintage

The year 2024 began with a mild and wet autumn and winter with heavy rainfall between October and March. The early bud break at the end of March was followed by a cool and wet spring. A hailstorm on the night of June 18 to 19 caused a crop loss of 80%. The hot and dry summer favored a slow veraison, with the merlots reaching mid-veraison on August 10, followed by the cabernet sauvignons on August 17 and the cabernet francs on August 24. The harvest took place from September 19 to October 4, with significant selection work to enhance the potential of the crop.

Vinification and aging

Aging in French oak barrels, of which 15% are new and 85% are one to two wines.  This measured proportion of new wood helps to preserve the fruit while providing an elegant tannic structure and aromatic complexity.

Blend

This Château de Sales 2024 is the result of a blend of Merlot (88%), complemented by Cabernet Franc (7%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (5%).
