Description
The Château de Fieuzal Red 2016: a Pessac-Léognan with great finesse
A Grand Cru Classé of Graves, the Château de Fieuzal Red is produced in the Pessac-Léognan appellation. With an area of 68 hectares, the vineyard planted with red varieties has been converted to Organic Agriculture since 2016. The vines benefit from the characteristic terroir of Pessac-Léognan with gravelly soils. The aging of the wine is done in 225 and 400 liter barrels previously used for one wine for the Cabernet Franc and Merlot, and in new oak of 225 and 400 liters for the Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. A few of the more sensitive grape varieties of the property can be observed aging in amphorae. The Château de Fieuzal Red 2016 consists of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, and 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot.
The 2016 vintage of Château Fieuzal was marked by an intense summer with significant thermal amplitudes between the days and nights, as well as some thunderstorms. True water reserves were established from the winter and spring, in no way interrupting grape maturation. Even if the volumes are not very high in the 2016 vintage at De Fieuzal, the quality of the wines produced are exceptional.
The Château de Fieuzal Red 2016 is very refined, with exceptional tension on the palate and great concentration. Balanced, elegant and deep, this wine still needs to age to express its full potential.
