Description
Chateau Dauzac reveals a refined and aromatic red wine from Margaux
The estate
An 1855 Grand Cru Classe of Margaux, Chateau Dauzac, is one of the estates that have experienced the most significant improvement in quality in recent decades. Thanks to the tireless work carried out both in the vineyard and in the winery, this magnificent property has become a true emblem of the Margaux appellation.
The vineyard
Enjoying a superb location in the Margaux appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux, the Chateau Dauzac vineyard covers 45 hectares of vines planted on outcroppings of deep gravel. The vines are 35 to 40 years old on average and are planted at a high density of 10,000 vines per hectare.
The vintage
The warm temperatures of March and April favored an early budding of the vines, two weeks ahead of schedule. The soil work carried out in the spring by the vineyard teams allowed the vine to develop its root system in depth, thus helping it withstand the summer drought. While the hot and dry summer allowed for an excellent ripeness of the grapes, a slight water deficit due to the low rainfall naturally concentrated the grapes. Sufficient water reserves and the use of biodynamic preparations allowed the vineyard to face the summer drought in good conditions, up until the harvest of high-quality grapes, which took place under perfect sanitary conditions.
Vinification and aging
Harvested manually, the grapes are sorted on the table before and after destemming. The vinifications of the Chateau Dauzac 2020 are carried out in a gravity-free cellar without sulfur and exclusively with yeasts found naturally in the vineyard. The wines are vinified in oak vats with double transparent staves, with the pumping of the wines avoided in order to optimize the maceration process. During fermentation, gentle pump-overs promote optimal extraction of the tannins, allowing the wine to gain in subtlety and complexity. The construction of the blend was made with very close attention paid to press wine. The Chateau Dauzac 2020 is aged in French oak barrels (66% new oak) for 15 months with racking according to tasting.
The blend
The Chateau Dauzac 2020 is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (72%) and Merlot (28%). The Chateau Dauzac 2020 is certified 100% vegan.
The tasting
Endowed with a deep color, the Chateau Dauzac 2020 seduces with its aromatic richness and tension, which characterizes the greatest vintages.
Cellaring
The Chateau Dauzac 2020 can be enjoyed between 2025-2050, although it will also be able to age for several decades under the right conditions.
