The Estate
Classified as Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel, Château d'Arsac is one of the oldest estates in the Médoc, on the left bank of Bordeaux. Owned by Philippe Raoux since 1986, the estate has undergone a bold and original renovation. With a resolutely contemporary spirit, Château d'Arsac stands out for its stainless steel-clad winery, glass roof with raw materials, and its striking Klein blue color. The estate also hosts numerous art exhibitions in its Sculpture Garden of contemporary art.
The Vineyard
Spanning 53.56 hectares, the vineyard of Château d'Arsac produces exceptional wines from Margaux. The vines, averaging 30 years of age, are planted on deep gravel soils resting on brown soils with marl-limestone outcrops. The vineyard is farmed using sustainable practices, with a zero-residue policy in the wines implemented since 2016. The rows of vines are grassed over, and each vine stock is monitored constantly.
The Wine
This 2023 vintage features a distinctive label, paying tribute to Philippe Raoux. The owner of Château d'Arsac, who passed away in 2023, spent his entire life combining his two passions: art and wine.
The Vintage
The year began with budbreak for the Merlot on March 23 and for the Cabernet Sauvignon on March 30, before a frost event on April 5 whose impact on the vineyard was very limited thanks to the preventive measures implemented by the estate. The steady and even vegetative growth in April was slowed by low sunshine levels in May, before favorable weather conditions returned afterward. Flowering was uniform. The warm, rainy weather recorded from mid-June to the end of July led to vigorous vine growth as well as strong mildew pressure, which was kept under control through the team's diligence. In mid-August, near-heatwave conditions proved ideal for ensuring optimal ripening of the grapes, combined with the water stress caused by these hot, dry conditions, resulting in excellent concentration and vibrant freshness.
Winemaking and Aging
Vinification in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with gentle extraction. Separation of press wines during pressing. Maceration for 3 to 4 weeks. Aging is carried out exclusively at 80% in barrels (55% new barrels, 45% one-wine barrels) and 20% in stainless steel tanks.
Blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (80%)
Merlot (20%).
