Description
The refinement and aromatic richness of an Haut-Medoc wine
The estate
Boasting a history that dates back to the 13th century, the Chateau d'Agassac estate is located at the entrance of the Medoc region, on the left bank of Bordeaux.
For over 8 centuries, this estate has witnessed a significant expansion thanks to the involvement of various illustrious families (Gaillard de Gassac, Pommiers, Richier and Gasqueton). The insurance company Groupama acquired the estate in 1996, and since 2021 it has been taken over by the family group, Beautiful Life, founded by Gérard Jicquel, who has also owned Chateau Fourcas-Dupré (Listrac) since 2019.
Named as a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel in 2020, Chateau d'Agassac is renowned for its wines that harmoniously combine a powerful and balanced expression with fine tannins and a complex and refined aromatic framework. Enjoying a rich philosophy that revolves around innovation and carrying out a never-ending pursuit of excellence, Chateau d'Agassac's uniqueness is particularly due to its bottles, whose cork has been replaced by a screw cap since 2004.
The vineyard
Chateau d'Agassac is an Haut-Medoc wine that stems from a 43-hectare vineyard, one of the oldest in the Medoc. The vines are 31 years old on average and are planted on soils composed of gravel and sandy gravel, depending on the plot. Strongly committed to a sustainable and environmental approach, Chateau D'Agassac bears the Terra Vitis certificate since 2004 and the HEV level 3.
The vintage
A mild winter favored an early budbreak. Flowering took place under very good conditions thanks to the vineyard's perfectly healthy condition. The relatively cool temperatures during the summer favored a gradual ripening period and a good acidity.
Vinification and aging
The harvested grapes are rigorously sorted in the vineyard and then in the cellar. Vinification in 23 temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Vatting time for 21 to 23 days. No malolactic fermentation in barrels. Stirring, punching down and pumping over are carried out to optimize extraction. 50% of the wine is aged in new barrels, 43% in stainless steel tanks and 7% in amphorae.
The blend
Merlot (55%)
Cabernet Sauvignon (42%)
Cabernet Franc (3%)
