Description
The finesse of a fruity, balanced Barsac Grand Cru
The estate's grand vin, Château Coutet 2018 displays all the qualities of a truly great Barsac.
Located south of Bordeaux, this Premier Grand Cru Classé in Barsac, Château Coutet, is one of the leading names in its appellation. The estate's vineyard is planted mainly with Sémillon (75%), complemented by Sauvignon Blanc (23%) and Muscadelle (2%). The grand vin is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels.
After a spring marked by heavy rainfall, a fine, dry and sunny summer encouraged ideal ripening of the berries. The drought in August and September delayed the development of botrytis. At Château Coutet, the harvest therefore began on October 5 and ended on November 5, with four successive passes through the vineyard, all by hand.
On tasting, Château Coutet 2018 shows a lovely straw-yellow color. Beautifully expressive, the bouquet unfolds a palette of citrus notes evoking bitter orange, the tang of grapefruit and the sweetness of white peach, lifted by spicy hints reminiscent of ginger. On the palate, the fresh, lively attack gives way to a dense, deliciously velvety and perfectly balanced texture. Full of freshness, the long finish ends on flavors of orange and spice. A superb vintage from a fresh, lively, unctuous and balanced Barsac Grand Cru Classé.
