Description
The estate
Château Couhins emerged from the archives in the 18th century. This property originally brought together two former Graves wine estates. As an integral part of the INRA (Institut National de Recherche Agronomique) network, Château Couhins puts its know-how and its vineyard at the service of viticultural research and innovation.
The vineyard
Château Couhins rouge 2022 is a Pessac-Léognan wine produced from a 22-hectare vineyard located in the vicinity of Villenave d'Ornon at the gates of Bordeaux. The vines are planted on a mosaic of terroirs consisting of a gravelly hilltop and a clay-limestone slope. To preserve this precious terroir, the estate uses environmentally-concious viticulture.
The wine
2022 marks the first use of new techniques for managing frosty plots and protecting plants from climatic stress, as well as the first year of organic farming certification.
Winemaking and ageing
Following the harvest, the destemmed grapes were sorted by density. Vatting for an average of 21 to 28 days, followed by vinification with punching down, sustained pumping over and delestage. The wine was aged for 12 months in French oak barrels.
Blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (50%)
Merlot (43%)
Petit Verdot (7%).
Tasting
Concentration and finesse are the key words for this Château Couhins rouge 2022. The aromatic purity of the Merlots blends harmoniously with delicate tannins and with the Cabernets whose power and structure promise an exceptional ageing potential.
