Description
A typical Haut-Medoc red wine
The estate
Located in Haut-Médoc and owned by the Miailhe family since 1924, Chateau Coufran is an atypical property of the appellation. Its unusual character stems from the blend of its wine, dominated by Merlot. This unique feature has earned Chateau Coufran the nickname "Pomerol du Medoc".
The vineyard
Chateau Coufran 2021 is an Haut-Medoc wine made from a 76-hectare vineyard. The vines are 50 years old on average and are planted on gravel soils and marl on a clay subsoil. The vineyard is certified Agriculture Respectful of the Environment (AREA) level 2 and High Environmental Value (HEV) level 3.
Vinification and aging
Vinification in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats followed by a 12-month aging period in French oak barrels.
The blend
Chateau Coufran 2021 comprises a blend of Merlot (85%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (15%).
