Description

Characteristics and tasting tips for Château Chasse-Spleen 2023

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a garnet hue adorned with violet reflections.

Nose
Opening with notes of black cherry, the nose exhales subtle fragrances of tarragon and umami, supported by a beautiful freshness as it aerates.

Palate
On the palate, the suppleness of the tannins ideally combines with a broad and delicate structure up to a lively, aromatic and persistent finish.

The creaminess and precision of a Moulis red wine

The estate

Located in the Moulis appellation, in the heart of the Médoc, the Château Chasse-Spleen was founded in 1720. Its name, Chasse-Spleen, acquired in 1863, comes from the Anglo-Saxon trend and is inspired by Baudelaire. The estate has been managed by Céline Villars since 2000.

The vineyard

Château Chasse-Spleen is a Moulis wine whose terroir rests on a gravelly mound in the Grand Poujeaux sector.

The vintage

A mild and relatively dry winter raised fears of too early bud break in the face of spring frost episodes which, in the end, had little impact on the vineyard thanks to late pruning. The end of the season was marked by high mildew pressure, a consequence of warm and humid conditions, before a more clement summer.
