Description
An aromatic and structured red wine from Moulis
The estate
Located in the Moulis appellation, in the heart of the Medoc, Chateau Chasse-Spleen was founded in 1720. Its name “Chasse-Spleen,” acquired in 1863, is inspired by Anglo-Saxon culture and Baudelaire. The estate has been managed since 2000 by Céline Villars.
The vineyard
Chateau Chasse-Spleen boasts a beautiful terroir on a gravelly outcropping in the Grand Poujeaux area.
The vintage
While 2020 began with warm conditions in January and February, significant rainfall from mid-April to mid-June led to strong mildew pressure. Summer conditions were hot and dry, even scorching at the end of August and the beginning of September.
The blend
The Chateau Chasse-Spleen 2020 is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (49%), Merlot (42%), Petit Verdot (6.5%) and Cabernet Franc (2.5%).
The tasting
Color
This bright wine boasts a beautiful dark burgundy red color.
Nose
The nose combines aromas of black pepper, candied mandarin peel and blackberry.
Palate
Dense and mouth-coating, the palate seduces with the finesse of its tannins, its balance and its smooth feel. Very supple, this wine harmoniously unveils subtle vanilla notes, leading to a finish marked by aromas of ripe jam.
