Chateau Chasse-Spleen 2016 is a Moulis that was produced under exceptional conditions. Grape harvest occurred late and the weather allowed them to reach perfect maturity.
Chateau Chasse-Spleen 2016 was produced with 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc. A typical blend of the Medoc, using all aspects of the grape varieties, using the special characteristics to create elegant wines.
The color is deep garnet, limpid and bright. Chateau Chasse-Spleen 2016 has a very expressive nose. Aromas of black cherries and fresh roses are present. After aeration, there are notes of blackberries and pink peppercorn. The mouth is voluminous with a dense tannic framework. The tannins are tight, fine and satin-smooth. The finish is persistent with cocoa powder and licorice. There is no doubt that this Moulis has wonderful potential for aging and should be opened from 2022-2045.
The 2016 Chasse-Spleen has a very elegant bouquet with neatly integrated oak, the terroir really showing through here, hints of cedar and smoke emerging with time. The palate is fresh as a button on the entry. It is cut through with a superb line of acidity that engenders superb tension, the tannins firm but fine with a subtle marine influence towards the persistent finish. This is a fabulous Chasse-Spleen, the best I have ever tasted from the estate. It could end up at the top of by banded score.
