Castello di Ama: the beauty of Tuscany's great terroirs

The estate

Nestled at 500 meters above sea level, the Castello di Ama estate boasts a rich historical heritage, as the small hamlet of "Ama" was already renowned more than five centuries ago for its agricultural activities and its production of Tuscan wines.

The Castello di Ama estate oversees a vineyard of nearly 80 hectares, including the illustrious terroirs of Bellavista, San Lorenzo, Casuccia, and Montebuoni, located in the historic Chianti production area and passed down from generation to generation.

The vineyard

Produced since 1978, Castello di Ama's Vigneto Bellavista Gran Selezione is a Chianti Classico wine crafted from a 22.82-hectare vineyard planted between 460 and 525 meters above sea level. This terraced terroir comprises 22 plots of Sangiovese and Malvasia Nera grown on clay-limestone soils.

The vintage

A mild winter encouraged rapid growth of the vines, which was slowed by the significant cool weather recorded during March and April. Later, the mild temperatures and sunshine of June and July ensured early ripening of the grapes, ahead of the humid and cool conditions that arrived as harvest approached.
