The estate

Viña Almaviva was born in 1997 following a partnership between Baroness Philippine de Rothschild and Don Alfonso Larrain, Chairman of Viña Concha y Toro. The Viña Almaviva project was born from the ambition to create a truly great wine from Chile, bringing together French winemaking expertise and the singular expression of this Central Valley terroir.

The vineyard

Located in the heart of the magnificent Chilean Maipo Valley, the Almaviva vineyard spans 50 hectares. The emblematic grape varieties of the Bordeaux vineyards thrive wonderfully on this exceptional terroir. Almaviva has now become an essential benchmark among the great Central Valley wines around the world.

The vintage

Bringing a long period of drought to a close, the winter of 2021 was rainy, followed by a warm, dry spring. The summer was cool, marked by heavy and unexpected rainfall at the time of véraison. This relative summer coolness, a guarantee of gradual and optimal ripening, comes through in a smooth blend of tension, length, acidity, and balance.

Tasting

Color
The color is of a rare intensity.

Nose
Fresh, elegant, and complex, the nose opens with fruity and floral fragrances before revealing, as it airs, notes of violet, licorice, ink, and graphite.

Palate
A juicy, fruity attack (raspberry, blackcurrant) gives way to a fresh, elegant, and perfectly balanced palate. Fine tannins combine with a fine texture as well as delicious notes of vanilla and cocoa.
