Produced by the prestigious Viña Almaviva estate, the Almaviva 2016 embodies the excellence of Bordeaux’s wine-growing tradition in what was an exceptional vintage in Chile.

A sunny vintage, 2016 will be remembered for its high temperatures, especially in December and February. The harvest began rather early, with Merlot on March 29, and lasted until May 6, two weeks ahead of usual.

The Almaviva 2016 was made possible by the great effort and constant attention paid by the estate’s technical teams. The speed and precision of the harvesting teams, the rigorous optical selection and the permanent monitoring of the winemaking processes have resulted in a superb Chilean wine, one of great elegance and freshness, offering rich fruit but also expressing the unique character of the Puente Alto terroir, in the Central Valley region.

True to the tradition of the Bordeaux blend, the Almaviva 2016 by Viña Almaviva was made from Cabernet Sauvignon (66%), Carmenere (24%), Cabernet Franc (8%) and Petit Verdot (2%).

At the tasting, the Almaviva 2016 presents a deep, intense and bright ruby red color. The nose opens with delicate notes of red berries, like raspberries and blackberries, which intertwine in perfect harmony with notes of toffee and coffee. From the attack on the palate, this vintage seduces the taster with its elegance and freshness. The well-rounded palate shows off the supple structure of silky-smooth tannins. The vintage stretches into a long finish, marked by vanilla and delicate peppery notes. Elegant, complex and distinguished, the Almaviva 2016 is in line with the great vintages of Viña Almaviva, representative of the unique style and remarkable precision of this iconic property in Chile.
