Chateau Latour

Chateau Latour image

Chateau Latour can trace its history to the 14th century when the original tower was constructed on the estate by Gaucelme de Castillon during the Hundred Years War. The ancient Pauillac estate is among the four of the Medoc vineyards designated as a First Growth in the classification of 1855 and today is owned by François Pinault's through his holding company, Artemis. Chateau Latour wine is considered one of the longest lasting First Growths, it is recommended to enjoy after at least ten years of bottle age. The 78 hectare vineyard of Latour rests on an extraordinary terroir of deep gravel, marl and clay, planted with 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot and 2% of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Some of the oldest vines at the estate are over 100 years old; all Cabernet Sauvignon vines. When young, Chateau Latour wines can be dense with layers of fruit and over time aromas of leather, cedar, tobacco develop. Today the Chateau is slowly converting to biodynamic farming, with over 30 hectares being farmed using biodynamic techniques.
